Destination
Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary situated in Yavatmal area is crisscrossed by four rivers – Bhima, Purna, Krishna, and Tapti – and features waterfalls and reservoirs in dense forests and basalt lands. Spread across 148.63 sq km – it is known as the Green Oasis of Eastern Maharashtra. Bengal tigers, leopard cats, sloth bears, Indian leopards, hyenas, sambar deer, chital, black bucks and wild dogs are among animal species that live in this sanctuary. There are over 180 bird species here, representing 46 bird families out of which 85 kinds of rare birds – making it a great place for birding.
There are three entry gates of Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary,
- Sunna Gate is nearest to Tipai. Located 6 km away, 15 minutes drive
- Mathani & Kodori Gate are 20 km away and 45 minutes drive.
Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary (TWS) in Maharashtra shares a tiger corridor with Kawal Tiger Reserve (KTR) in the former undivided Adilabad district in Telangana. Additionally, there are also corridors between Tipeshwar and Painganga (Yavatmal) & Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) (Chandrapur).
