Spanning an area of 847.981 sq. km, it is a critical habitat connecting the Western Ghats through Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary and the Eastern Ghats through Bandipur Tiger Reserve. The park supports a diverse range of wildlife, including Bengal Tigers, Leopards, Asiatic Wild Dogs, Sloth Bears, Asiatic Elephants, Gaurs, Sambar, Chital, Muntjac (Barking Deer), Four-Horned Antelopes, Wild Pigs, Mouse Deer, and South-Western Langurs. It is contiguous with Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary to the south and Bandipur Tiger Reserve to the southeast, featuring numerous streams and rivulets, with the Kabini and Taraka reservoirs enhancing its biodiversity.

Gateway to Nagarhole

The perfect gateway to the extremely alive and diverse Nagarhole forrest in the western ghats. We were apprehensive about planning a trip to the western ghats in august with the monsoon, but this was very quickly dismissed once we entered the resorts and saw the views of the vibrant and lush green forrests of the nagarhole reserve from our machaan luxury tents. The team there are extremely knowledgeable with no less than 3 in-house naturalists to accompany and share their infectious enthusiasm for nature with us. We loved the nocturnal walks and the bird viewing walks. The one walk which surpised us was the botanical walk with so many interesting facts about the flora in the region. Thanks a lot to Machaan and their very very hospitable staff who catered to all our needs. we certainly recommend the place and we are told it is even more beautiful in the winter months !
